Levant Mine received a welcome delivery this week, in the form of a new boiler. The mine's famous 1840 beam engine has stood still since June, after it was found that the steam boiler was unsafe to operate.

When the boiler broke down at the end of June, staff, volunteers and visitors at Levant Mine were disappointed not to see the magnificent beam engine in steam. It was soon realised that the old boiler needed replacement at significant cost and the worry was that it would be too difficult to achieve this during the current season. However, after considerable effort and showing huge commitment to the importance of the site, the good news is that work to replace the boiler has now begun! The old boiler is currently being removed and more updates will follow in due course.
